Membership Categories

There are nine grades of membership within the ICMA:

The admission requirements vary for each grade of membership:

For Certified Management Accountant Membership
- entitled to use the designation letters, CMA®
- must have completed the CMA® Program and must have at least five years approved relevant experience in a senior and responsible Management Accounting position
For Associate Management Accountant Membership
- entitled to use the designation letters, AMA®
- must have at least three years approved relevant experience
For Graduate Management Accountant Membership
- entitled to use the designation letters, GMA®
- must have a degree from a university or equivalent educational institution in accountancy or a related discipline
For Registered Business Accountant
- entitled to use the designation letters, RBA®
- Qualification in Accounting or completion of Stages 1,2 & 3 of the ICMA’s Graduate program
For Registered Cost Accountant
- entitled to use the designation letters, RCA®
- Qualification in Accounting or completion of Stages 1 & 2 of the ICMA’s Graduate program
For Certified Accounting Technician
- entitled to use the designation letters, CAT®
- Qualification in Accounting or completion of Stage 1 of the ICMA’s Graduate program
For Management Accounting Affiliate
- entitled to use the designation letters, MAA®
- no management accounting experience is required. It is open for those with either a three-year supervisory/managerial experience or a three-year experience of running one’s own business. For those who want to be a management accounting affiliate, you will be required to take up an approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program within two years before being granted membership.
For Student Membership
- not entitled to use any designation letters
- must at least be a college graduate
For Honorary Membership
- available to distinguished persons whose services to Management Accounting and related disciplines in the opinion of the Executive Committee merit this award of membership
- this is conveyed by the Institute to distinguished persons whose services to Management Accounting and related disciplines merit this award of membership
