There are six grades of membership within the ICMA:

The admission requirements vary for each grade of membership:

  • For Certified Management Accountant Membership
    • entitled to use the designation letters, CMA®
    • must have completed the CMA® Program and must have at least five years approved relevant experience in a senior and responsible Management Accounting position
  • For Associate Management Accountant Membership
    • entitled to use the designation letters, AMA®
    • must have at least three years approved relevant experience
  • For Graduate Management Accountant Membership
    • entitled to use the designation letters, GMA®
    • must have a degree from a university or equivalent educational institution in accountancy or a related discipline
  • For Management Accounting Affiliate
    • entitled to use the designation letters, MAA®
    • no management accounting experience is required. It is open for those with either a three-year supervisory/managerial experience or a three-year experience of running one’s own business. For those who want to be a management accounting affiliate, you will be required to take up an approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program within two years before being granted membership.
  • For Student Membership
    • not entitled to use any designation letters
    • must at least be a college graduate
  • For Honorary Membership
    • available to distinguished persons whose services to Management Accounting and related disciplines in the opinion of the Executive Committee merit this award of membership
    • this is conveyed by the Institute to distinguished persons whose services to Management Accounting and related disciplines merit this award of membership
